Director of Student Culture, Harriet Tubman Charter School
Joined the Team in 2011
A native New Orleanian, Steven Bliss graduated from Jesuit High School and received a BA in Sociology from Louisiana State University. After LSU, he joined a national nonprofit called Playworks where he worked closely with public elementary schools across New Orleans to ensure that students engaged in healthy play-based activities everyday. Armed with a wealth of knowledge on youth engagement and an urge to make a bigger impact, Steven stepped away from the nonprofit world to become a founding member of Harriet Tubman Charter School in 2011. During his first year at Harriet Tubman, Steven served as the 3-4 Science teacher, reading interventionist, and 3-4 enrichment teacher. He then went on to teach 5th Grade Science, lead our 5th and 6th team, and eventually became the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Science. Recently, Steven stepped into the role of Director of Student Culture where he will work with students, staff, and families to maintain a joyful learning environment that promotes the values of Harriet Tubman Charter School.
