Dr. Sara Norton is entering into her first year with Crescent City Schools as the Director of Special Education at Harriet Tubman Charter School. Sara has a rich background in K-12 public education having served as an English, speech communications, consumer math, and SAT prep teacher in both a small, rural high school in Wisconsin and a large, urban high school in Washington, D.C.  After almost eight years in the classroom, Sara moved into administrative roles in Illinois, Michigan, and, most recently, Wisconsin. Sara is  a passionate, energetic educational leader who shares Harriet Tubman’s belief that every child deserves, and will learn from, high quality instruction and who is dedicated to the mission of raising up our historically underserved students. Not only does she  share Tubman’s beliefs about teaching and learning, but Sara also has a strong record of teaming with teachers to maximize students’ academic growth and close achievement gaps for all students.

Sara has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in secondary education with a major in English and a minor in speech communication and a master’s degree in Education Administration from the University Maryland. Most recently, she earned her Ph.d. in Education Leadership from Western Michigan University. When Sara’s not working with staff to determine what students’ need to achieve and blossom and how to best meet those needs in our classrooms, she can be found drinking good coffee, laughing with her crazy family, or on the back of her retired racehorse, Max.
