Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Social Studies
George Werres is originally from Greenwood, IN, but he has called New Orleans home for 7 years. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Psychology and a master’s degree in Education. His teaching career began in Indianapolis in 2006, where he taught 4th grade for 4 years. He moved to New Orleans in 2010, where he taught 3rd and 4th grade and joined the Tubman team in 2012. During the 2013-2014 school year, George developed a science curriculum that incorporated the common core literacy standards and raised student achievement by 20 points. 79% of the students in his classroom passed the math LEAP at Basic and above, and 71% passed the ELA LEAP at Basic and above. Last year George serverd as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for 3rd and 4th grade. This year he is taking on a new role as the Social Studies Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
